Airway's, Unit 6

Some people have been in touch with me regarding activities at Unit 6, Airway’s Industrial Estate. I have checked the land registry and see that the unit was purchased by Green Urban Logistics Ltd on March 29, 2022. The company’s directors have no apparent affiliation with Royal Goldstein, the lessors of Unit 29. Presently, there is no planning application for Unit 6, with the last application dating back to 2007. Green Urban Logistics has previously worked on industrial sites and successfully converted a site in Naas for their logistics business. It is unlikely that Unit 6 is to be used for purposes other than logistics but changes in the planning law does allow for the material change of use on a unit if emergency accommodation is being provided.

Royal Goldstein 3 previously owned / leased Unit 29, and then they were dissolved or went into liquidation, a new company was set up and took over the lease of Unit 29. Royal Goldstein 4! Royal Goldstein is an investment firm and when they (RG3) went into liquidation they had over 800 debtors. As usual, the government continues to ensure that their friends in high places are propped up by whatever means possible, but the normal Joe would have the rug pulled from under them if they defaulted on loan or tax payments.

I have spoken to many locals over the last number of weeks and there have been a lot of concerns and reservations within the community. Addressing concerns and avoiding dismissive labels is crucial to fostering understanding and constructive dialogue. It is vital to acknowledge the valid concerns raised by local residents who have viewed video footage of disorder in other DP centres. Such behaviour is not only concerning for residents but also for many refugees too. To create a safer and more inclusive environment, these concerns must be addressed, moving beyond the limited scope of social media discussions.

I also want to do another update about litter picking in another post shortly. Litter picking is something that I have personally found therapeutic during Covid restrictions, and I have kept it up since. I am more than happy to empower anyone to help out in the community, regardless of background. This has always been the way for the last 3 years since my participation in community cleanups. The fact that something as simple as volunteering in the community has so quickly become such a trivial matter is also a concern. I hope this is something that can be discussed and that community cleanups can continue to be an activity that remains enjoyable for participants and beneficial to the wider community.
